Electronics is used in communication and control systems and virtually every gadget we use has an electronic component. From the smart phone in your pocket, your TV at home, the giant servers storing the content of the internet, to the satellite orbiting the earth relaying signals between themall; Electronics makes it possible.
You will start by studying the fundamental building blocks of electronics from which all useful circuits are made and will gradually learn how to put them together in increasingly complex ways to solve problems. You will learn to understand how circuits behave, whilst also learning the practical skills required to investigate them.
A subject that is respected by both universities and employers, Electronics can complement other A-Level subjects such as Physics, Maths and Computing as there is some overlap in the skills and knowledge required to succeed. A-Level Electronics could also easily sit alongside other Science subjects, IT, Business or Music Technology and can even be taken alongside the single vocational option; Extended Certificate in Engineering.
You will need a double grade 6 or above in GCSEScience, grade 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics and grade 5 or above in GCSE English. If you’ve studied the three sciences separately at GCSE, you will need grade 6 or above in Physics and one of the other sciences.
