Marketing is all about the process of creating a brand and developing persuasive advertising campaigns to sell products or services to consumers and businesses. It is an exciting and dynamic industry to work in as it constantly changing and growing with so many opportunities for employment!
You will explore the organisation and structure of marketing in the UK, discover the importance of marketing strategies and campaigns, learn about the marketing environment and consumer behaviour. You will also have the opportunity to create your very own marketing strategy campaign.
The course will prepare you for progression to the workplace via an apprenticeship in marketing or a higher education programme. The course content is appropriate and consistent with current industry practice to enable you to enter employment directly.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.
Teaching on the course will be a mix of workshops, lectures, guest speakers and work experience. You will build a portfolio of work and undertake a variety of learning activities such as writing up findings of your own research, using case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations and also carry out projects to give you the opportunity to demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate processes.
There are three mandatory units – two are internally assessed and one is externally assessed controlled assignment. You must achieve a Pass or above in all mandatory units.
English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
The course links with a wide cross-section of organisations with diverse marketing professions, such as:
- advertising and marketing agencies
- marketing consultants
- self-employed digital marketing specialists, social media specialists and content marketing specialists
- employees working in marketing departments in a range of large organisations, both for-profit and not-for-profit
- marketing recruitment agencies
There is also employer involvement in the form of guest speakers from marketing and communications agencies and marketing professionals as well as site visits to organisations in the marketing industry.
On campus, full time. Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.
You will study three mandatory units:
• Careers in Marketing
• Marketing Principles (externally assessed)
• Customer Communications
The mandatory content allows you to develop your skills, supported by underpinning knowledge, and provides you with the the opportunity to relate these to the marketing industry.

Your timetable will be very different to school. You will have a lot more free time to take part in extra-curricular activities, study, or get extra money and work experience with a part-time job.
College is a very different learning environment to school. You may even become more inspired and have a new motivation to work towards your future goal in a college environment.
A college can offer a much wider choice of A-Level subjects, plus vocational courses in lots of different subjects and at different levels.
You will have the opportunity to take part in lots of different activities outside of the classroom to boost your confidence and help you develop your skills and personal qualities.
A college can invest in an extensive range of industry-standard facilities to give you the skills and knowledge to prepare for university or employment, and can also offer subjects that need specialist facilities.
