Hartlepool Sixth Form student, James Shanks, will be attending university with the help of a grant from EDF Energy.
The Mechanical Engineering student completed his Physics, Maths and Chemistry A-Levels at Hartlepool Sixth Form and is going on to study Mechanical Engineering at Newcastle university.
James, who successfully entered the EDF mentoring programme during his time at Hartlepool Sixth Form, will now benefit from the sponsorship, consisting of work experience and a grant for his first year at university.
Mark Batey, Curriculum Manager of STEM, said: “James was a fantastic student throughout his time at Hartlepool Sixth Form. He had an incredibly positive attitude, worked hard and always took advantage of opportunities that came his way. I am not at all surprised that EDF has offered him the sponsorship.”
The EDF mentoring scheme started in 2012 and offers students a unique opportunity to work with the power station’s engineers during placements.
