Hartlepool Sixth Form has launched a range of electronic and engineering courses aligned to local and national skill need priorities, which will support economic activity in Hartlepool and the wider Tees Valley region and develop a productive workforce for the future.
This new course offer directly responds to the workforce priorities of the region, ensuring that students are provided with industry-aligned learning opportunities and can create a bespoke programme of study with Hartlepool Sixth Form to achieve their career ambitions in this thriving industry.
Head of Hartlepool Sixth Form, Mark Hughes, said:
“With an increase in the use of robotics, automation and digitalisation, the workforce of the future will require higher level skills to support local sector demands. These changes will place an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) related subjects.”
He explains:
“Our Electronics and Engineering pathways will provide students with the opportunity to study a full technical engineering programme or specialise in sector-based pathways. For example, a student could study a single technical Engineering course alongside A-Levels in Physics and Maths to support a career destination in Mechanical Engineering, whilst another student might want to specialise in Electrical Engineering so could study A-Levels in Electronics and Maths alongside the single technical Engineering option.
“Students are at the heart of everything we do, and we focus on the importance of every individual student. We understand their expectations and aspirations and individually tailor their study programme to ensure these are met. We pride ourselves on developing a career-focused curriculum with students able to select the right academic and technical subject combinations to support their ambitions.
“We continuously review our offer to make sure that our programmes of study support local and regional growth strategies. We are committed to producing students who will be successful in life and their ability to progress into local employment through obtaining the right qualifications and skills is essential.”
Hartlepool Sixth Form offers an extensive range of A-Level subjects. In line with local demand, the sixth form also offers a select number of A-Level equivalent qualifications and technical courses. Achievement rates across its full portfolio of AS Levels, A-Levels, GCSEs and BTEC Diplomas has increased during the last two years, by 5.8%. In addition, technical courses at the sixth form have consistently reported a 100% achievement rate.
Hartlepool Sixth Form merged with Sunderland College in September 2017 and is now part of one of the largest college groups in the country, Education Partnership North East.
College group hosted a series of events to celebrate becoming the first in the region to be awarded College of Sanctuary status.
