Sociology is the study of human social relationships, how society is organised and how we experience life. Sociology looks at topics such as the causes of crime, religious beliefs, education, the family, social class and culture and identity.
Sociology is an exciting and illuminating field of study that analyses and explains important matters in our personal lives, our communities, and the world.
You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 5-9, including English Language.

English and Maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE Maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.
Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change. Timetables are confirmed at the start of term.
Compulsory topics include:
- Education with research methods
- Crime and deviance with methods and theory
Optional topics include:
- Families and households
- Beliefs in society
The majority of our successful students continue on to higher education to study social sciences, sociology or criminology at degree level. Many students are attracted to nursing and social work as a career.
Sociology is useful for a growing number of careers, especially those which are ‘people orientated.’ There are a number of employment pathways as a result of studying sociology such as working for the National Health Service, Police, HM Prison Service and in public relations.
