What’s it all about?

Criminology is about crime and punishment. It is an exciting interdisciplinary subject that combines aspects of law, psychology and sociology to look at how crime is defined, why people commit crimes, and how society responds. Studying criminology will allow you to understand the culture of crime and the workings of the criminal justice system, including the police, courts, prosecution services, prisons and rehabilitation services.

This qualification will appeal to students who are interested in criminal behaviour, the criminal justice system and may be considering careers in related areas. Criminology combines well with a variety of subjects at A-Level such as law, sociology and psychology.

You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 5-9, including Maths and English Language.
