Students at Hartlepool Sixth Form College are celebrating after discovering that they have gained the grades to achieve their future ambitions.
The sixth form college’s A-Level, T Level and technical students received their results today (Thursday 15 August) with many accepting offers from some of the country’s leading universities, progressing to higher level apprenticeships, or starting a new career.
The sixth form achieved an overall 93% pass rate for A-Levels again, with many subjects receiving 100% pass rate with English Literature, Further Mathematics, Film Studies, Economics, Business and Criminology students performing extremely well.
Students taking vocational and technical qualifications continued the high performance from previous years, with a 95% pass rate.
A significant proportion of Hartlepool students gained successful entry to university with 94% of those successful in securing their first-choice place.
Proud A-Level student Molly Butcher gained two A*’s and an A in Psychology, Maths and Further Maths.
The 17-year-old, who is heading to Newcastle University to study Psychology and Sports Science as a joint honours said: “I’m really happy with my results. I’ve put a lot of work into my studies, so I’m glad to see it’s paid off.”
Another delighted A-Level student, Reece Garthwaite, achieved three A*’s in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. He said: “I’m very happy, I was quite shocked when I opened my results, but it was of course a nice surprise.
“I only needed one A* to get into my chosen university, but I got all three.”
Reece is going to Edinburgh University to study Maths and Physics this September.
Cassie Gray, who is going to study Law at the University of Liverpool, gained ABB in English Language, English Literature and Sociology.
She said: “It’s taken a while to sink in, but I’m very proud of myself and I’ve secured a place in university, so that’s all that matters.”
Those studying T Levels also impressed, with students of Health, Early Years and Laboratory Science all achieving their qualifications and all with high grades.
T Level student, Ellen McDonough will be applying to become a Teaching Assistant after achieving a Merit in Childcare and Education.
She said: “I was really surprised and pleased when I got my results. I’m going to apply to become a Teaching Assistant at a school in Hartlepool.”
Results were available to collect from the sixth form from 8am with those unable to pick up their results in person receiving an email later in the morning.
The college’s Matrix Standard accredited Careers team also hosted drop-in support and one-to-one appointments offering advice and guidance on grades, clearing and course options.
Student recruitment staff from Teesside University were also on hand to guide students through the clearing process.

We’re proud to see students leave college as resilient and confident young adults ready for the next stage in their journey in their career.”
